School continues to go well for Smarty. Her favorite subjects are English and Spanish - in English they are reading Hamlet and discussing evolution of English language, while in Spanish the current unit is all about food. I feel that her accent in Spanish is improving, and she loves being able to expand her vocabulary every day.

After School

We are all enjoying the switch away from Daylight Savings Time - nobody in our family likes to get up early, and Smarty's natural rhythms are more aligned to winter time. It will stink for us if California decides to stay on DST all year long - we would very much rather for it to go to "real time". The one drawback of winter time, however, is that it gets dark earlier leaving us less time to be outside. I did drag Smarty out once this week for our mother-daughter walk, and we will do more of them when she does not need to go to taekwondo quite so often. But she enjoys her taekwondo classes and is always happy after practices.

Places We Are Going

Smarty had a fantastic field trip with her marine biology class - they spent last Sunday on board of a research vehicle studying water quality and plankton population of San Francisco Bay. While she was out, we went on a field trip of our own and visited one of our state parks.

What We Are Reading

Disclosure: I am an Amazon affiliate, and this post contains Amazon affiliate links.
We finally made it in the library this week. Smarty enjoyed reconnecting to her favorite characters in the third book of The Trials of Apollo series by Rick Riordan. She also read a couple of other new books, both fiction and non-fiction. I am re-reading The 7 Minute Solution by Allison Lewis.

Favorite Picture of the Week

Heading home with her library haul (I am carrying a big bag of books, she is carrying what did not fit in that bag).

Your Turn

How was your week?

Does the Trials of Apollo series get better? I wasn't enamored with the characters, and the new villain set. Of course, I had the same problem with the Magnus Chase series, so it could just be tiring with the author style.
