Are you changing your decorations between seasons? We enjoy adding seasonal touches to our house, and we love to make some of them together as a family. In this post I will share several ways of involving kids in making DIY fall decorations for your home.
DIY Fall Decor with Kids

1. Making a Fall Centerpiece

Fall tree
Our year-round centerpiece is a vase with natural tree branches. For  Easter, it becomes our “Easter Tree”. For fall, we decorate this tree with silk leaves and homemade clay decorations. Our entire family loves our clay making sessions, which we split into two weekends – one for making clay decorations, another is for painting them. We have made some fall and Christmas decorations last year and this year we plan to make more for our second tree in the living room.

2. Plant Fall Flowers

Fall Planting
We live in Northern California, so fall is the planting season for us when we replace some of seasonal flowers and plant cool weather vegetable garden. It’s a perfect time for children to get involved in picking plants for the garden, planting them, and taking care of them.

3. Decorate Windows

Every year we decorate our kitchen window with ghosts for October and leaves for November. When our daughter was under 7, she was in charge of placing our decorations on the window. Last year she progressed to cutting her own ghosts. Soon this window will be her responsibility (our backyard door already is, but it’s taken by seasonal gel clings).

4. Make a Fall Banner

Fall Banner
This summer we introduced a new art project for entire family – a banner where each of us decorates two letters from the season word. We hang it above our eat-in kitchen that also doubles as a family room. This time all of us managed an initial draft and a final version, and I love how our letters turned out. You are welcome to guess which ones belong to our 7 year old :)

I have had the same Valentine decoration hanging from my chandelier for the past 4 years. It's kind of sad.

I love that you carried the banner on into fall! We're just about ready to put up our fall-leaf-list tree.
