This idea was inspired by Filth Wizadry Lego ideas. I thought that Anna will enjoy building “a number tower” and reinforce counting by 10 and 5 in the process. I used 10 2x8 blocks and 20 2x4 blocks and wrote numbers on colored labels. However, one mistake I made is using the blocks and color labels of various colors – I think it would have gone a little better if Anna were not too distracted by sorting the blocks either by their own color or by the color of their labels. She was not in the least interested in putting even a tower of 10 in order (the one above was from the way I presented the activity to her). But she was happy to make an elaborate TV screens where “each screen tells us about the number” – all my attempts to tell her that the “screens are not in order” fell onto deaf ears. However, I am not losing hope – sometimes it takes her time to warm up to this kind of activity, and I might yet see those towers built when she has time to fiddle with them during her “rest time”.
