Who Am I?

  • I was born and raised in the former Soviet Union. My native language is Russian. Therefore, I consider articles in English language something that is "optional".
  • I moved to US at a ripe old age of 25 after graduating with M.S in System Engineering from Radioengineering University in my native city of Minsk.
  • I started my work life in the States as a software engineer for a small start-up in New York City. Now I work for a giant technology company in the Silicon Valley.
  • I settled in Silicon Valley after a lot of travel. I visited almost every state of the United States and about 15 European countries.
  • My three top travel memories – New Year 2000 in Paris, Egyptian Pyramids and Santorini island.
  • Having my daughter was an unexpected event, and the best thing that ever happened to me.
  • My husband is a friend, a lover and the best father ever.
  • My favorite movie is Forrest Gump, and my favorite book is A Stranger in a Strange Land.
  • I don’t watch TV. Instead I spend all the time freed from TV watching on the Internet. When I am not on Internet, I enjoy spending time outside, playing tennis, and reading.

  • Why Do I Blog?

My goal is to reach out to working parents of preschool and elementary school age children who often feel overwhelmed by all the things they "should be doing". My desire is to show them that even short after school activities in the evenings and on weekends can teach our children many things that we care about. I am not a teacher, and not a parenting expert, but I am a parent who is guided by common sense. As an engineer, I am passionately interested in all things STEM, and I am hoping that my gifted child will not lose her passion for math and science. Since both my husband and I are first generation immigrants, we want to raise our daughter a "world citizen" with appreciation of world cultures and the world history. We also love books in this house, and I love sharing books that my daughter is reading.
