Another Camp is Over

This was definitely a "mixed bag" week. Smarty returned to Steve & Kate camp that she enjoyed the last 2 years. She even had her best friend attending the same week. Unfortunately, they both hated the camp. It was in a different location, overcrowded and loud, with long lines for any activity. Smarty also said that activities always repeat year after year, and she is not as excited about them any longer. In addition, she picked up a nasty bug by Thursday and missed Friday altogether. It's a good thing that we only got passes for 3 days for this camp, and that they offer refunds for unused passes. On the positive side, Smarty is already better, and she had a lot of time to spend with her friend, both in the camp and outside of it.

All of us got to see The Incredibles 2 this week. Smarty had no interest in going with us when we went to see it last Sunday, but then her friend said that he is going to see it on Thursday, so we all watched The Incredibles 1 on Tuesday evening (we have it on Blu Ray), and she went with her friend and his Mom to see #2 in the movie theater. She thought that the second movie had a better story than the first, my husband and I still think that the first movie was better, but the second one was enjoyable enough and posed some interesting questions.

Fun Memory of the Week

Smarty and I got into an argument when she tried to talk her way out of going to taekwondo on Wednesday. I insisted, and she went while whining all the way to it. Then she left her practice and said, "I had a great time. You are so good, Mommy, you always know what's best for me even when I don't". This made me smile and also think whether or not I should push Smarty more to do things that she does not want to do because they require effort. Right now we are just giving her total self-direction for the time when she is not in camps, and she spends most of it reading.

What We Are Reading

Speaking of reading, Smarty read a lot this week, here are some of her favorite new books (she also re-read a bunch of books on her Kindle).  I am reading Hardwiring Happiness by Rick Hanson and trying to get better at focusing on positive experiences in my life.

All of Smarty's book picks this week look well worth reading. I'll send her recommendations on to Emma.

That's a shame about Steve + Kate camp. I've only heard good things about it, but my kids certainly wouldn't like it if it were crowded.

That's always hard when a kid has loved something for years and then the last experience with it is bad.

I really liked Incredibles 2, and I'm not quite sure which is better the first or the second one. You're right it does bring up lots of great discussion questions.
