Highlights of the Week
We mostly enjoyed our last week of vacation. I say "mostly" because we both picked up Smarty's cold from the last week. I woke up on January 1st with sore throat and running nose, then my husband went down on Friday. It was fortunate that our skiing trip got canceled, because we could take it reasonably easy, and I already feel much better.
Celebrating New Year's Eve
We did not take any pictures of this year's New Year's Eve, but we celebrated it with our best friends and their 6 year old son. Both he and Smarty lasted until midnight, they went through a few boxes of poppers and then we called it a night. My husband keeps dreaming of a big party for adults on a New Year's Eve, but I don't see it happening any time soon. We also hosted a couple more dinners at our place, and now our holiday entertainment season is officially closed.
Last Week of Vacation
We decided not to limit Smarty's computer time during this vacation, and she spent an inordinate number of hours playing Minecraft - by herself, with her father, or with her best friend. At least she is tapping into her creativity by creating her own Minecraft Metropolis in creative mode - or she was doing this until she got sidetracked by breeding Minecraft horses to get a herd that is able to jump three fences high. But we also played games as a family, and she did some practicing for her SAT that she is going to take in early March. She still has quite a bit to learn in math, but her second practice run was rather impressive with 1440 points out of 1600. I wonder how many she will get on a real test.
What My Child Is Reading
Smarty read less than usual this week, but we finally made it to the library, and she loaded up on new Minecraft books, several books from adult non-fiction section, several rereads of Septimus Heap series by Angie Sage and the latest book in Rick Riordan's series, The Ship of the Dead.
Favorite Memory This Week
Smarty, seeing this oversized Santa, People cannot be this round, even when they are short. For example, you, Mommy, are not spherical, you are more like a rectangular prism with rounded corners.
