Highlights of the Week

We thoroughly enjoyed our Christmastime. We spent Christmas Eve at our closest friends where we had a nice meat fondue and exchanged presents. We all slept until almost 10 am on Christmas Day and then started a pleasant process of opening presents. We strategically placed Smarty's main gift, her Samsung Prime phone, last, so she could enjoy the rest of her presents. She was very excited about it and immediately texted her best friend to organize a meetup. They had a few of Minecraft playdates this week, but Smarty also gave her Papa a Minecraft account for Christmas, so now they enjoy playing together.
In less positive news, Smarty came down with a bug on the evening of Christmas Day and is still working to shake it off. She is sleeping 12 hours a day and somewhat less energetic than usual, but it looks like she is getting better now, and so far we did not get her bug. Fingers crossed that it passes our house without us getting it as well - that would be rare, because usually what hits her hits us twice as hard.

Celebrating Christmas Week

We were having company or visiting people most days of this week - out on Christmas Day and Christmas Day, then having friends over on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Today I took Smarty and her friend to see The Last Jedi. Overall, she liked the movie, but found certain parts scary. I thought I would discover more sense in the plot on the second take, but this did not happen. Tomorrow we also have company ringing in New Year with our best friends who hosted Christmas Eve.
We also played a lot of games including trying out our new games - Coup Rebellion and Modern Art, built a giant Lego Apollo Saturn V set and watched some movies together. Everyone is enjoying our holiday "hibernation" mode - going to bed late and waking up late - most days we were just getting out of bed at around 10 am. And the good news is that we have another lazy week ahead of us as we had to cancel our snow trip reservation, because the snow has not quite arrived yet to the Sierra mountains. With any luck, we will try to go skiing over the weekend in February.

What My Child Is Reading

Smarty raced through all of her library picks and most of her Christmas book gifts. Her two favorites were Felix YZ by Lisa Bunker and Akata Warrior by Nnedi Okorafor.

Favorite Memory of the Week

Watching my daughter happy, relaxed, and enjoying life at its fullest.

Happy New Year, My Readers!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! We have a similar such game called Resistance, which we enjoy!

Wow, our house is always a negotiation of how early the kids can wake us up. This year we got to 7:30.

I'm still trying to figure out what I think of the Last Jedi, it's such an odd movie.
