Highlights of the Week
Hanukkah started this week. We celebrate it as a heritage holiday in our house - with latkes, lighting the menorah, and playing dreidel. Sadly, we could not get our act together for the first two days, but now we are on a roll :)
My husband is now also officially on vacation, and I am looking forward to some quality time just with him next week before Smarty starts her winter break. Perhaps we can even catch The Last Jedi matinee somewhere. We are almost set with our presents and looking forward to the next weekend!
Smarty is quite happy with this term's elective, environmental advocacy project. She is a team lead, and her team decided to make a series of digital newsletters about endangered marine animals of California. She is also on Tech Challenge team with one 8th grader who she really respects and three other 7th graders. We are very curious to see if they get to some sort of the working solution for this year's challenge (last team none of school teams got to compete in an actual challenge, because they did not have anything working). In not-so-positive news, she is currently sporting B- in social studies, because she forgot to turn her work... twice. I guess Christmas and social activities occupy too much of her brain.
Smarty asked to do some holiday baking this week, and we managed to find time for it - both on our own and with friends last weekend. She is also practicing hard for her belt testing promotion which will be next week. Unfortunately, next year we will have to move taekwondo days around, since I am unlikely to be at home to take her there at her preferred time. Other after school activities also included more painting pots with one friend and a Minecraft playdate with another friend. Smarty has been positively busy lately!

We did not make it to the library again this week, so Smarty had to rely on her favorite re-reads, such as Rendezvous with Rama by Arthur C. Clarke. It was one of my favorite books when I was in school even though I was somewhat older when I read it first.
Favorite Memory This Week
Smarty painted this small landscape as a present for her grandparents. Before we sent it out, my husband scanned it and made it to a Christmas card that she can share with her teachers. Now she is busy making personalized messages to her teachers to give them next week.
How was your week?
