Highlights of the Week

It's been a fun and busy week. Smarty wrapped up her third week of College 4 Kids camp on Thursday afternoon, we picked her up directly from the camp and headed out to our annual family camp. We all love the place, because it's a "managed camp" with activities for kids and adults and three square meals a day. Smarty roams around free all day, we only meet up for meal times. There is no cell service in the camp, which provides such a welcome break from being connected to our devices. The only thing that my husband dislikes about the camp is packing and unpacking, but I still hope that we will go again next year.

Kindergarten Reunion

Smarty had a chance to reunite with 7 out of 10 of her kindergarten classmates. She was in a combo class that had 10 kinders and 15 first graders. Now all those tiny kindergartners are leaving their elementary school for the middle school, all except the tiny Smarty who is already there. Kids had fun looking at their kindergarten photos, hugging their wonderful kindergarten teacher and playing with water toys.

Family Camp

My husband and I spent two days in the camp reading, cooling down in the creek, going for walks in the morning and evening, and talking to our neighbors. Smarty was eagerly participating in many organized activities including tie-dye, archery (she even won an archery tournament for her age group), water games, etc. There were other kids of her age in our big group, but she was not "clicking with them" and preferred to roam on her own most of the time.

What My Child Is Reading

Favorite Memory This Week

One of our neighbors always take Smarty fishing when we go to the family camp. This time, he only came in the afternoon of our last day, but he was still up for taking her fishing in the evening of that day and early morning the next day. Alas, three years of trying and still no fish. This time Smarty was explaining to everyone, I almost caught a fish. It was biting the bait but did not take the hook. And the fish was thi-i-is big!!!

That first picture of Smarty is so striking.

Your family camp sounds really cool.
