Highlights of the Week

Our summer has officially started! Smarty quite enjoyed staying up late, sleeping in, and having freedom to do what she pleases. She stayed home with us while we were working from home, and it worked out reasonably well. It's nice that she is now at the age when she can entertain herself, because I was certainly not up for entertaining her this week while dealing with all kinds of work related emergencies. It's funny how they all crop up once I am ready to leave for three week of vacation with no access to mail!

Summer Learning

Smarty always had this thought of attempting to take SAT in the 7th grade. We were not on board previously, but then decided, why not? She was quite excited to attempt a practice SAT test on Khan Academy and got respectable 1330 points out of possible 1600 on the first try. Now she does a little bit of SAT practice every day hoping to improve this score when she takes a real SAT test sometime next year.
Smarty also discovered DIY.org, a great site for kids who love making. I was amused to discover that she knows fully well how to use her iPAD or laptop to record herself. She is now eagerly awaiting for her videos to be approved and hopes to grow her portfolio more later this summer.

Summer Fun

Smarty also met up for a playdate with her best friend and for another playdate with a girl from her school who she started to "click with" at the end of the year. The girls had a lot of fun together, and I hope that we can do it again later in summer. Smarty really hopes that they are in the same class next year - this year they only had choir together.
Smarty also took her next level belt test this week and earned camo decided level. Her head coach wants her to move to an advanced level once she is back, but Smarty thinks it's better to do so once the school starts back, because she won't be able to attend the full cycle and test this summer.

Summer Reading

Disclosure: I am an Amazon affiliate, and this post contains Amazon affiliate links.
As could be expected, Smarty eagerly signed up for our library's summer reading program. She cracked me up when she told the librarian, 600 minutes of reading for a free book? I will be back in a couple of days to get mine. We haven't been back to the library, but she certainly read more than 600 minutes this week. I was happy to see her branch off from her regular fantasy genre into non-fiction, mystery, and classics.

Favorite Memory This Week

Smarty looking at the flowers at our neighbors' driveway, How interesting! They are all the same type, but some of them are white, some are purple, and some are white and purple. This must be gene splicing in action!

That's a great first try SAT score, particularly at Smarty's age. I'm glad you are enjoying summer vacation so far.

I'll have to look into that video site. I know another little girl who would enjoy a site like that.
