Highlights of the Week

Last weekend, Smarty had a chance to train with a famous person in taekwondo world - Mike Chat. She really appreciates performance component of martial arts, so she really enjoyed this special event. She tried so hard that Mike Chat personally nominated her to the next level of training called leadership program. Smarty was beyond herself with excitement, but we already discussed it previously - she cannot take on more obligations now until some of her activities end in early April. She might sign up for leadership after she gets her next level belt in late April.

School

Last year I made a point to get involved in our school district with the goal of advocating more for the needs of gifted and advanced students. I am becoming very well known to our district board after having made a number of "public comments" in their meetings. This is why I was invited to participate in a special retreat to help our district leadership form a strategic plan for the next 3 years. It was a very interesting and rewarding experience - I am curious to see if new goals will be approved by the board by the end of this school year.

After School

Last Sunday, Smarty took a sewing class organized by our local organization for gifted kids. The girls (yep, sadly not even one boy was interested in this class) made PJ pants and Smarty was very proud of herself. She immediately put them on and I am yet to convince her to put them in the laundry. She enjoyed the class a lot and asked to see if she can go to a sewing summer camp. We have to see about that - she is not likely to have a lot of time for camps this summer if all our plans materialize.

What My Child Is Reading

Disclosure: I am an Amazon affiliate, and this post contains Amazon affiliate links.
Smarty has finally found a new series to race through,  The Last Apprentice by Joseph Delaney. It's somewhat darker than her favorite books, but she is enjoying this series so far. We are pacing her somewhat, because she has a very hard time focusing on other things when she has an interesting book waiting for her.

Favorite Memory of the Week

A silly moment with Smarty. It's spring and her freckles are enjoying sunshine. Oh, and for the record, she had her belated 10 year old checkup, and she is perfectly healthy and "on the curve" for weight and height - 6% in weight and 10% in height :)

This sounds like a great week for Smarty! Very cute PJ fabric, too.

My boys go through spurts of wanting to learn sewing. Unfortunately for them, it's not something they have a choice in the matter to learn.

Oh, and that is a lot of work put into the leprechaun trap with all that coloring.
