Highlights of the Week
I spent the first half of this week being dreadfully sick with no voice whatsoever. I still have some cough, but I finally feel my energy returning. Luckily, Smarty still did not get this cold that is running amok in our area. She enjoyed many special activities of this last week before winter break.
Our backyard/front yard escalation is gaining speed despite more rain. Our new deck is finished, and most of our new driveway is in, but we cannot drive on it yet. We are really looking forward to all the work being finished and being able to start new planting for this spring.
On Wednesday, 6th graders brought their Valentines to school and exchanged them. Smarty was happy to get sweets, little gifts and several handwritten notes from her classmates.
On Friday, Smarty had a crazy hair day in school (see picture), and her first middle school dance. I am writing this post on Friday morning, so I might write about middle school dance later next week.
Last Saturday, we took our top 10 mathematicians to a regional MATHCOUNTS competition. They had a lot of fun, but they still have ways to go to rise to the level needed for our competitive chapter. I wrote about our experience in more detail here. Smarty also went to her regular after school classes - taekwondo, Art of Problem Solving, and a"science of flying" class where they made neat gliders from a kit.
