It's time to say Goodbye not just to a week but to an entire year 2016. While it was a difficult year for the world and for our country, it was a reasonably good year for our family. No big changes occurred here. The biggest event of the year was a grade skip for Smarty and her entry to middle school, which she so far navigates with confidence and enthusiasm. We still have our well paying jobs, our comfortable house, and our families. Most importantly, we are all healthy, and this is really the one thing that matters most. I wish my readers a very happy and healthy 2017 as well.

Christmas Day

We celebrated Christmas Eve with our friends and had a pleasant Christmas Day at home. I cannot say that any of the presents was an instant hit with Smarty, but we all enjoyed both new games we got this Christmas - Lost Cities and Timeline Discoveries. We ended the day by having a dinner with our closest friend and then watching The Muppet Christmas Carol.

LEGO Trains

We received a "family Christmas present" of a third LEGO train from my husband. He always wanted to have a LEGO train as a child, and now his wish came true in a big way. It's our tradition now that we convert our guest room into a LEGO train room for post-Christmas week.

Kerbal Space Program

Our 13 year old neighbor invited Smarty to see his Kerbal Space Program shortly before Christmas, and she was obsessed with it ever since. She received an Amazon gift certificate from her grandparents and was lucky enough to snatch the game on post-Christmas digital sale. She was playing it a lot this week - we lifted restrictions for computer time to allow her to explore this pretty fascinating game. I might write more about it at some point in 2017.

What My Child Is Reading

Smarty really enjoyed the first book in A Dragon's Guide series by Laurence Yep and Joanne Ryder and was excited to discover the sequel in the library - A Dragon's Guide to Making Your Human Smarter. She was also on re-read frenzy going through Artemis Fowl series and several of her favorite comic books.

Favorite Memory of the Week

I got into the photo - a rare occasion for me, since I take more pictures than my husband does. And here is my Smarty in her favorite "mama hug" pose.
