It's Christmas Eve and it means that half of our vacation time flew by. We are enjoying this time together and looking forward to celebrating Christmas Eve with our closest friends. Smarty, of course, can't wait until tomorrow morning, but we are trying to savor every moment of Christmas time, because all too soon it's going to be over and regular demands of work, homework, and after school activities will flood back in.

What Were We Up to This Week?

My husband and I shifted into our "vacation schedule" of waking up late, taking naps, and staying up late watching movies, playing video games and going for midnight walks around the block. Smarty does not sleep in or takes naps, but she is staying nicely put in her room reading or uses this time to sneak in more computer time that is officially allowed. Thankfully, she is not addicted to YouTube videos or Minecraft but chooses to spend her time on this site.

Smarty had her first taekwondo belt testing this week. She worked really hard these 7 weeks between signing up and belt testing date, and she did really well on her first test. She is all pumped up to continue with TKD. We think it's a great sport for her middle school years and hoping that she will stick with it.

We had all kinds of weather this week including our first frost and more rain. But the first day of winter was quite warm letting us play outside without our winter jackets.

Smarty spent time hanging out with her friends - playing games and launching paper rockets. She also had a Minecraft playdate with her best friend. She still misses being in the same class with him.

What My Child Is Reading

Disclosure: I am an Amazon affiliate, and this post contains Amazon affiliate links. As usual, Smarty read up the storm during this unstructured week. She went through the latest addition of Five Kingdoms series by Brandon Mull and re-read two of the previous books for good measure. Yet again, she is rereading her favorite series The Ranger's Apprentice by John Flanagan - she shared with me that her goal is to be able to "read these books in her head" whenever she wants to.

Favorite Memory of the Week

Smarty making us pancakes for breakfast... and telling us every day how much she loves us :)

Merry Christmas from California!

Merry Christmas! Did you make that snowman? It is pretty amazing!

Did Smarty make her heart shirt? I couldn't make out what it says.

Merry Christmas!

Texas hasn't really gotten cold this winter, except the one week I was gone. I can't say I'm sad I missed it.
