Highlights of the Week
It's hard to believe that one third of summer break already flew by. Yesterday, my husband's had a birthday, and Smarty made him this photo frame. It's more or less a tradition for Papa to receive a new photo frame each year. We have friends over today to formally celebrate an occasion, and Smarty is eagerly looking forward to the 4th of July holiday.
Smarty enjoyed her first camp week in Camp Galileo. The theme was National Parks. Camp Galileo always has three parts in the day - outdoor fun, art, and science. Smarty enjoyed outdoor fun this year despite the heat - she loves playing group games when group is all new to each other and led by an adult. She also quite enjoyed art where they were making a diorama of Yosemite Half Dome.
Places We Are Going
I took a couple of days off last week, and we went on our first road trip of summer - to Lassen Volcanic Park and Lava Beds. Smarty is at a perfect age for this - she is old enough to tolerate long car rides, but still young enough to enjoy spending time with us and be really enthusiastic about new experiences. She loved all parts of the trip, especially lava caves. I am hoping to write about them more next week.
What My Child Is Reading
Disclosure: I am an Amazon affiliate, and this section contains Amazon affiliate links. We did not make it to the library this week, so Smarty went to reread The Frog Princess by E.D. Baker and The Faraway Magic Tree Stories by Enid Blyton.
Best Memory of the Week
Smarty: I know I am a nerd. Nerds are kids who are smart and who are just... different from other kids. We know it, the other kids know it. It's not that we are disliked, we just... have differences. But it's OK. I am proud to be a nerd.
