Highlights of the Week

Smarty got her first individual award this week - she was participating in Math Olympiad program this year than included 5 individual contests within her school. She got the highest individual score in her school - high enough to score in top 10% of all Math Olympiad participants in the nation in her age group (4th-6th grade). She did not seem to think that it's a big deal but we are very proud of her.

School

Smarty's school had an Open House on Wednesday. She was very proud to show some of the writing and art projects from this year. I always find it interesting to see during the Open House time not only what Smarty did but also what her friends did. It was definitely a very busy 4th grade, and we are kind of glad that we only have 3 weeks left :)

After School

Smarty had a lot of chance to hang out with friends this week. Her closest friend's new obsession is yo-yo, so he started a bi-weekly yo-yo club. Then another friend's father invited everyone who wants to participate to come to their house for a bi-weekly chess club. Unfortunately, both families are not within walking distance, but I don't mind driving Smarty to these activities. Both families plan to run their clubs over summer, so, hopefully, Smarty can stay in touch with her friends.

Places We Are Going

Smarty attended another seminar organized by Lyceum, our local organization for parents of gifted kids. It was a LEGO workshop where kids explored cogs and gears. She quite enjoyed it -  perhaps it will motivate her to pull out her own LEGO more often at home.

What My Child Is Reading

Disclosure: I am an Amazon associate, and this section contains Amazon affiliate links. Smarty has found another series to fall in love with - The Familiars by Adam Jay Epstein. Since she loves cats, she was delighted to discover that the main character in this story is a cat. She also reread The Martian one more time - I was quite surprised by how much she loved that book, because it's not her usual fantasy fare.

Favorite Memory of the Week

One of the projects from the Open House. All other kids chose legs, feet, arms, or hands to write about. Smarty wrote this:

It came as a pleasant surprise that my recent post Principles of Happy Parenting was #1 this week. The other two were regular suspects:
How was your week?

What a gratifying week! It is a sweet touch that dhe is not full of herself despite her immense accomplishments.

Well done, Smarty! I am impressed, but not surprised, that she won this award.

Those are some cool clubs! I feel like our local parents are less involved, although their children have plenty of enriching activities.

Congrats Smarty!

I forget has Smarty read the Young Wizards series? She might enjoy it, I was just thinking of it because she has a companion series to it on cat magicians.
