It was the first year my daughter was serious about using her camera during her spring break vacation. It was interesting to look through her pictures and see Germany through her eyes.
Spring Break 2016: Bremen
Smarty is a very lucky child. Both my husband and I work in high-tech, so our salaries allow us to travel. Usually, for families like ours the more limiting factor for travel is taking time off work. But my husband is a self-employed consultant and, technically, can take off whenever he wants. My vacation time is more limited, so my husband and Smarty travel without me at least twice a year - once to meet up with his brother in Florida in fall and once to Germany where my husband was born and educated. Smarty is a good traveler that is perfectly happy on the road as long as she has her Kindle with new books. Since she has her own camera now, I hope she will keep memories of these early trips even when she is an adult.

So what did Smarty photograph when she visited Germany?
Bremen Center
Bremen Town Center
Landmarks - Bremen Musicians from Brother Grimm's Tale

A train station in Bremen
Variety of German breads and sandwiches
Remains of old castles - those walls were very thick.
A small "farm zoo" in Bremen
And, of course, a selfie :)
Smarty also had a chance to visit the fourth grade of a German school, because my husband's friend is a fourth grade teacher. She was shocked to discover that religion is a mandatory subject in Germany taught next to science or art (parents do have the right to opt out). My husband picked her up before a religious class, but she enjoyed 2 hours of an art class (German students are lucky!) and an English class where she was amused by British words used in the movie that the students had watched.

What a wonderful spring break trip to take with your daughter. We have been through Germany but have never stopped there. I agree that travel is such a valuable gift to be able to give to our children.

I always find it revealing to see what the kids think is worthy of pictures. Of course it can also lead to 200 pictures of feet..... Though my kids haven't done that for a few years now.
