Highlights of the Week

We ended up with a four day weekend this week - Smarty had last Friday off due to teacher-in-service day, plus it was a Martin Luther King day on Monday. We used this opportunity to take time off as well and went on a trip we wanted to do for quite some time. We visited Death Valley National Park and came back happy, tired, and with lots of pictures. I will have to write about our trip in a separate post :)

School seemed smooth this week. Smarty was in a good mood on arrival home. She is enjoying her integrated social study and language arts unit on California history and also likes the freedom of choosing her own path in math. The only thing that saddens her is that her best friend dislikes their teacher and they spend a lot of their play time arguing about her pros and cons. She also had a sudden migraine-like headache one night this night - a repeat of attack that she had last week. It seems that she reacts strongly when the weather changes from sun back to rain.

After School

We had a lot of rain early in the week, and then we enjoyed a pleasant break. All this rain made our parks and lawns green and beautiful. Every afternoon I was asking Smarty to take her bike and go out or we went for walks together. We also learned about Colombia, made Colombian dinner, and played Labyrinth for our family game night.

What My Child Is Reading

Disclosure: Amazon affiliate links to books in this section. My husband always tries to catch Kindle deals, and finally Smarty started reading her big collection of Kindle books. Here favorite this week was The Name of This Book Is Secret by Pseudonymous Bosch, but she also read some books she picked in the library - Children's Book of Magic (explaining and teaching magic tricks), Codename Zero, plus a bunch of American Girl and National Geographic magazines from the library.

Favorite Memory of the Week

Smarty: You know how I imagine afterlife? Like a giant bookshelf full of books to read with books overflowing and stacked on the floor as well. And that's how it looks when some books are checked out. And hell would be a place with no books at all.

I feel Smarty's pain with the weather changes, those are miserable.

No books would certainly be a form of hell.

It looks like you're in spring already! Sorry for weather headaches for Smarty - I hope that won't be a continuing trend.

I totally can relate to those stinking headaches. Hope they clear up in the near future.
Just found your site and love the honesty.

My kids react strongly to weather changes, too. Here's hoping the migraines do not continue.
