Cat Lover
  • Smarty starts her Presidents Day school break early – she is flying later today with Papa to visit our German side of the family. She is very excited about this adventure.
  • Sadly, Smarty is fighting a cold, but so far no fever, so I am hoping that the flight will not push her over that precarious edge.
  • My husband has found a new contract, he will start his new job right after he is back.
  • I managed to make it to my doctor who put some concerns I had to rest, at least for now :)

RollercoasterSmarty’s teacher was down with a bad cold for a few days this week, and Smarty was unhappy about it. She really loves Mrs L, and classroom discipline is always worse with substitutes. In language arts, they are working to write biography reports. Smarty chose to write about Helen Keller. She will have to write hers on the road as it is due just after she comes back from her trip. Smarty’s favorite part of the week was a gifted enrichment class where they made roller coasters. Hopefully I’ll manage a separate post about that next week.

After School

Pogostick Smarty spent some time after school documenting her science fair project. She also played, read, and built with Legos.

After enjoying Regarding the Bathrooms by Kate Kliselast week, Smarty borrowed an earlier book Regarding the Fountain from the same series, and reported that this book is fun, but “not thick enough”. She also read several stories about Helen Keller for her book report and I finally caught her reading one of the poetry book in our library – A Pizza the Size of the Sun by Jack Prelutsky.

Favorite Memory of the Week

Smarty is really serious about Valentine’s Day this year. We already received special cards and sweet surprises from her. She is also really determined to give a special Valentine to her best friend who happens to be a boy. I love that she is standing by him despite his social difficulties which make many kids dislike him.

I hope you do post separately about the rollercoaster. I'd love to see what Smarty came up with.

Oh, and if your travelers are going to be in Berlin - I've got a trendy new church I can recommend. One of my nephews is a pastor there. I'd an eye witness report :)

A trip to Germany -what could be better than that? I am glad your husband will be starting a new job, too. Sounds like it was a good week despite some problems.

It must be a week of new jobs, because I just heard from one of my other friends her husband just got a new job too.

That roller coaster she built does look fun.
