Walk to School
Now we have only three more weeks of school left, and we are all looking forward to the days when we don’t need to get up at 6:45 am for school. Smarty and her Papa are not early risers and a little grumpy in the morning. Smarty was eagerly looking forward to Friday this week, because they had their annual Walkathon and special privileges surrounding it – a fun schedule, lunch with a band, carnival games, and a Jamba Juice stand.
After School Activities
It was very hot this week, but we still tried to spend some time outside. Smarty had a fun play date with her best friend, and it’s interesting to see how different her play world is when she has a playmate. I am still requiring her to write at least every other day, but, to make it more fun, she rolls a dice for a choice of a writing activity.
The Mother’s Day
I am joking that I am more lucky than my husband, because Mother’s Day happens during school year, and Smarty usually applies herself to rare art projects there. She gave me a card and a special project she made in school. My husband made waffles in the morning, and then we went to one of my favorite places for a relaxed hike.
Books My Child Is Reading
This week Smarty had the last Accelerated Reader assembly in school. She was one of a very few students who reached the highest level in this program (you can only earn credits if you take and pass comprehension tests on the books you read). She was delighted to receive a $15 Barnes & Noble gift certificate, and she already decided how to spend it. See, she is impatiently waiting for the book #3 from Mysterious Benedict Society series by Trenton Lee Stewart. Unfortunately, all available copies are currently checked out in the library book system, so Smarty is planning to buy it in the bookstore this weekend. In the meantime, she read through a “prequel” The Extraordinary Education of Nicholas Benedict (An affiliate link).

Happy Mother's Day! Looks like it was a good week. I like that first picture of her.

Jeff and the kids are gone for the weekend, so that's kinda nice to have quiet.

That is one down side to homeschooling, there's no one to lead my kids in making a Mother's Day present.

Hooray for a fun Mother's Day! I really appreciate that my kids sometimes make Mother's Day crafts at school.

It's only been a week since Mother's Day? It already seems like a distant memory. I am definitely looking forward to summer.
