We have two weeks of school left. The kids had a lot of tests this week and then went out to celebrate on Friday with a picnic in the park. One of the tests was Cogat test that is used in California as an entrance criteria to a gifted-and-talented program. Smarty said that it was hard, but we won’t know how she did until next year. We enjoyed attending an Open House in school where we could see everyone’s special projects and pick up some of year long projects that I will write about it separately. One of my favorite features was “guess who” wall where students drew their favorite things and then parents had to guess which one was from their child. I admit that it took me a long time to find Smarty’s artwork, because usually she puts no effort in art, and this one looked rather thought out.

After School

It was a busy week! On Monday we went to an interesting class about first aid in our library. Then Smarty had play dates, an Open House night, and her usual gymnastics class. She continues to go through 4th class math curriculum in Khan Academy and was quite proud to earn a very special badge there for mastering 100 skills.

What My Child Is Reading

Finally Smarty found another series that she likes – Warriors by Erin Hunter. By accident, she started with a second set called New Prophecy, but as far as I can tell the first and the second set are not tightly coupled and can be read independently. The rest of the books are placed in Amazon affiliate widget, but they came either from the library book sale or from our library:

Fun Memory of the Week

Looking more carefully at the photo of Smarty’s favorite things I wonder why it took me so long to find hers:

Oh, I just remembered, she should read the Young Wizards series by Diane Duane, there's about 10 of them now. It's some heavy stuff in the books, but she'd probably like it.

Oh the Chrestomanci books by Dianna Wynne Jones

Smarty might like the City of Ember series. I'm thinking they're about a 4th grade reading level, so she'd probably fly through them - but they might make for some light summer reading.

We had a busy week, mostly end of school year stuff. Emma was accepted to our neighborhood school next year and I am very excited about that!
