School. It was one of those incredibly busy weeks that we all have and then need some recovery from. Honk! performance week finally arrived. Little artists were practicing every night until 7 pm and performed 4 shows on Thursday and Friday. Frankly, another week of rehearsals would have been very helpful for everyone, but the kids did their best. This theater experience was excellent for Smarty – I am amazed to hear her actually singing “almost” in tune and catching new Christmas songs every day from the radio. I am hoping that this collaboration between our school and San Jose non-profit arts organization will continue next year as well, and Smarty will have another chance to be in a show.

Afterschool. There was no afterschool this week, since we had such late days in school. On Saturday we took the whole day to just decompress. Smarty spent most of it in her pajamas reading and playing. In the afternoon she asked to play Settlers of Catan, and then we cooked a very tasty dinner together using a recipe for Jamaica – December country for Around the World in 12 Dishes. Stay tuned for the post on that later in the month.

Other Events. I celebrated my birthday this week, and my husband made it very special with his signature chocolate cake and nice presents. My parents gave me an early present of a spa day that I used while they were visiting us over Thanksgiving break. It was a great visit, and we are missing them already.

We are slow setting up for Christmas this year, but our Advent calendars are out, and Hanukkah decorations are put away. Hopefully Christmas tree will be in before the next weekend, and we will be catching up with our Advent journal too.

Your turn: How was your week?

Happy birthday :) Sounds like you should have saved the spa day for this weekend.

Wow, that is a busy week! It sounds like there was plenty of "after school" even if it wasn't structured/planned. Happy birthday! I hope it was wonderful.

What a cool experience, I hadn't realized the show was THAT big of a production.

Happy birthday! Anna and I were sick most of last week, but Johnny had a nice birthday party with friends from his new school and Emma and Lily are doing well.
