School. It was a testing week for the first trimester, and I am looking forward to seeing the results. Smarty wasn’t saying much about her tests – she was a lot more interested in her recess and, of course, in counting down to Halloween. The only difficulty that we have with school is with school lunches – Smarty never eats a lot for lunch, and in school she barely eats anything at all. No wonder she is only 9% in height for her age according to her last doctor appointment!

Afterschool. Last weekend we wrapped up our Halloween prep by carving pumpkins. It was the first year when Smarty designed and carved her own pumpkin. The rest of the week was our normal after school activities – rehearsing for a theater production (they are doing HONK!), going to Y and to gymnastics, and a stop motion animation class. We also wrote a story with three word prompts one night, I might manage a post on that next week.

Places we are going. Last weekend Smarty went to a fun birthday party in the “Sky High Sports” – a trampoline place and to a Halloween party in the neighborhood. We deemed that this is quite enough for one weekend. Of course, on Thursday she went trick-or-treating and came back exhausted and sugared. While we don’t normally eat that many sweets, we believe in celebrating Halloween with proper sugar high Smile

Highlights of the Week

2013-10-28

  1. 1. Smarty was very pleased with herself when she constructed an FM radio on her own from the instructions in Snap Circuits 500 set (a present from her German Opa).
  2. 2. Her original design ideas for her pumpkin.
  3. 3. A Halloween portrait.
  4. 4. Writing a Halloween story.
  5. 5. Carving pumpkins is a tough job for a 7 year old!

Your turn to share: How was your week?

Yes, carving is a tough job for a 7 year old. I am impressed that she took on the challenge. I love that last collage. SO much fun and good memories being made. I didn't eat when I went to school either.

I'm very impressed Smarty was able to carve a pumpkin on her own.
I love her ghost costume, too...but just for a second I thought maybe she was dressed as a Klansman...that really would be scary! I was quite relieved when I took a second look and realized it was a ghost :)

Sounds like a fun week! We ran out of time to carve pumpkins this year - going to Disney just threw us off.

We believe in the sugar high Halloween too! Now, I have to get rid of a ridiculous amount of candy!

I was going to say the same thing...I thought she was KKK...scary.

I also am impressed with carving the pumpkin. It's hard even for me!

What a fun prelude to Halloween! Smarty is a busy girl - will you be posting about the stop motion class, I'd be interested to hear about that :)
