How Did the Week Go?

My second grader was in Florida last week with her father. They met up with our German side of the family and had a lot of fun. In the meantime I had more time for blogging and working. Everything is going to be “back to normal” for one week, and then another wonderful event happens – my parents come to visit us for a week. Smarty is really looking forward to it and to “Thanksgivukah” with Babushka and Dedushka.

Recommendations for Advanced Readers: Afterschool for Smarty Pants

Last week I shared my recommendations for books for advanced readers. Smarty absolutely loved Percy Jackson and The Olympians series by Rick Riordan, and she received her belated birthday present of four books from Heroes of Olympus on Kindle before her trip to Florida. She gobbled up two first books during her stay there, and now is almost at the end of the third book. For comparison, it took me more like two weeks per book – she can totally lose herself in the book when she is really interested in it.

I may or may not lock myself in the room when I get a new book and might shove food at the kids to keep them quiet.
