How Did the Last Week Go?

Mystery Substance

Looking at my blog, one might think that we spend a lot of time in afterschool activities, but it’s not really true. In fact, usually we spend max 30 minutes a day during a school week doing something extra, and it is usually a board game or spending time outside. Last week was a little different, because we had a Moon celebration and one day I had time for a science experiment (post on that is coming this week). As usual, Smarty spent a lot of time reading, and almost every day we did a little bit of math before bed, mostly with negatives and with simple division. In school she signed up for one more afterschool activity – stop motion animation, and she is really loving it so far.

September is a Classical Music Month

Can you hear it

Did you know that September is a Classical Music month? It is not too late to listen to great works of classical composers and maybe read some books about musical instruments. Can You Hear It? by William Lach (Amazon affiliate link) delivers a lot in a small volume – 14 tracks of beautiful music paired with famous works of art plus questions that make children really listen to the music and identify various musical instruments. I was surprised with how many my daughter could recognize from their sounds – definitely more than I could. It seems that she remembered a lot from listening and learning about different instruments last year.

Oh, funny! I almost featured those same cone animals. They are so cute!

I am always impressed with how much you get done with Smarty Pants, working around a full time work schedule. That is great that she is enjoying her stop motion animation class!
