In our lives… The first week of July was rather busy! We celebrated Papa’s birthday on Monday and in process of putting a new front door in. This is taking longer than we expected as a person who is doing it is very meticulous and is taking his time. His nieces (10 and 12) come with him, and Anna had a lot of fun playing with them – they taught her all kinds of card games. At Y camp the theme of the week was “Little Athletes”. Unfortunately, the kids couldn’t play outside a lot – the temperature stubbornly stayed in upper 90s all week, but they went to an inside rock climbing place and also had a magician coming over for a show.
Summer learning. Anna is busy rereading Percy Jackson and the Olympians series for the second time, but occasionally I can tear her away from the books to do an activity from our China bucket list. She did a mini-book on Chinese inventions and decorated a pretend vase. Both of these things will go into our China lapbook.
Places we are going. We never go anywhere for 4th of July, since our street is celebrating with a block party. Usually people from surrounding streets join as well, and we have about a hundred kids of all ages having on a water slide, playing mini-golf, going to a dunk tank and picking food from an open potluck buffet. In the evening, of course, there is music and fireworks. 4th of July is easily Anna’s second best holiday in a year – right after her birthday
Blog News. I am not sure if I will continue to blog more when my work load increases again, but I am having fun now joining with other bloggers including my dear friend MaryAnne at Mama Smiles into Multicultural Kid Blogs group. As my long time readers know, raising my daughter with awareness of the world culture and history is very important to me and a lot of my posts are focused around geography and history. The group is planning a Pinterest Scavenger Hunt starting on July 15 – stay tuned!
