In our lives… It was the last week in Y camp for Anna this summer. The theme was Under the Sea with a field trip to Monterey Bay Aquarium. Next two weeks she is going to have a lot more unstructured time at home with swim lessons in the morning, and I might still be around on my “unexpected vacation” to spend more time with her. In the meantime I keep busy by networking and reorganizing the house.
Summer learning. As usual, Anna spends a lot of her free time reading, but we did a few things out of our China Activities List including making a Chinese dinner. Anna picked Chicken Fried Rice with Snow Peas, and helped preparing it. She seemed to like the dish, the rest of us found it too bland and lacking asian flavor. We also read about Terracotta Army, and played with oven-baked clay, made a homemade toy, read The Greatest Power and watched an amazing documentary called Pandas in the Wild. We even fit a simple science experiment with ice and water – all in all it has been a busy week!
Places we are going. Considering Anna’s big field trip to Monterey Bay Aquarium, we took it easy this weekend. Anna spent all Saturday playing with a 10 year old daughter of a contractor working on our new front door. She is getting along very well with older girls and is learning a lot from them. We also went to a birthday party for our adult friend that had enough entertainment for visiting kids and his own two kids. Anna is pretty lucky to have so many opportunities opened to her this summer.
