In our lives… Anna happily went back to school after a break. This week we went to a school district’s science school night, which was quite interesting. Anna especially enjoyed experiments set up for 4th and 5th graders. At work I am finding it bittersweet to give up my old responsibilities and resist the temptation to keep jumping into many conversations that required my “touch” before. It was good to see a lot of my colleagues this week and go out with them a couple of times.

Afterschool. Our main afterschool activity lately was board games. This week we played chess and Scrabble. I also opened a Pandora box giving Anna her first “real” (i.e. non-educational) game on iPad – good old Pajama Sam. She is very fascinated with it, and keeps trying to solve various quests of the game. We still keep all electronics at a bare minimum at home, and she is completely not interested in TV.

Places we are going. This weekend we visited a new State Park, also within an hour of driving distance from our house – Henry W Coe State Park. The weather was perfect for a hike, and we could enjoy beautiful open spaces, majestic oaks and fir trees and many varieties of wild flowers. Sadly, Anna was somewhat whiny and we had to turn around instead of doing a loop trail. Hopefully, we will return later in a year to see more leaves on those oak trees.

Mar3_HCoePark2A happy picture. I recently read The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin, and some of her ideas resonated with me, especially maintaining some sort of happiness journal. I am trying now to take “happy pictures” every so often to capture scenes and memories that give me happiness. This Hound’s Tongue was one of those happy pictures from today.

I checked the Happiness Project out of the library. But I haven't started reading it yet. hahaha

JDaniel loves to sue the iPad too. I wish I hadn't started him on T.V. sometimes.

I saw a similar idea to the Happiness journal in a Bible study I did once, and when I read it I had great intentions of starting that journal. It then fell apart as reality of my ability to write things out by hand set in.

I love that photo of Hound's Tongue - beautiful!

My blog is sort of like my happiness journal. I'll have to look for that book!

We're getting ready for science night at our elementary school. I can't wait to see what's in store. It sounds like a fun week.
