In our lives… It was a very busy week for me at work as I tried to juggle my two jobs while also fighting a nasty pain in my left side that is interfering with my sleep. Eventually I went to see my primary care physician who said I most likely cracked a rib coughing. Unfortunately, there was little she could do except giving me stronger sleep aids (which didn’t work either). I still took Anna to her Make a Book event at school. To be honest, there wasn’t much writing going on, but a lot of excitement about endless possibilities present in a blank book and a lot of materials. Anna’s best friend managed to get a title done, Anna left with a title How To Make a Good Story and with a dedication. She didn’t touch the book since…

Afterschool. Anna was sick one day this week, but she felt better the rest of the week. She is reading a lot (can’t share the books because they came to us from my parents' friend who works in the publishing house and sends us pre-release copies of children books). She also really enjoys playing chess in her afterschool chess club. Papa played several times with her at home, and she even managed a tie with him. No such luck with me, but she definitely mastered the moves and already asked to be signed up for this class again. I think this girl finally found one more thing she really likes.

Places we are going. With better (though chilly!) weather returning, we are doing pretty good about spending time outside. Anna’s school is California school with recess and lunch outside, and her Y program has at least two outside activities daily. Both Sundays we went hiking to our favorite places. Hopefully our next hike will be some place new to keep Anna’s interest going and discover new gems within an hour distance from our home.

So I know she probably doesn't go to where I went to elementary school because your city is pretty big, but in mind when I picture what you describe she is going there, and I get happy memories from when I was a kid. I remember eating lunch outside when it wasn't raining and thinking that was so wonderful. It was such a culture shock when I came to Texas and lunch was inside, and recess was such a short period of time.

Kiddo loves chess, too. Personally I can't stand the game! It's one of the few games I don't actually like playing. Good think he has friends to play with.

Cracked a rib coughing? OUCH! However, pre-release children's books - very cool :)
