In our lives. Anna was very excited on Valentine’s Day – in her words, the best thing about holidays is sweets and gifts. At home we don’t celebrate V-Day much, but it was sweet to receive her Valentine cards made in school when she proclaimed us the best parents in the world (usually). I was again crazy busy at work and very tired in the evening which explains silence on my blog.

Afterschool. Anna incorporates a lot of writing in her play now. Last Sunday she threw an elaborate party for her Ballu Blue complete with invitations, party games and presents for her balloon. I felt pretty bad for her when Ballu Blue popped in the middle of his party when Anna tried to get his birthday crown off. She also brought home a book she was working on at school with pretty long and involved stories including one about poor Ballu Blue.

Places we are going. We are still doing good on getting out every weekend. This week we went to The Big Basin State Park – home of majestic redwood trees. Interestingly, Anna remembered a lot of landmarks on the trail from her previous visit there last year. We got a State Park pass and hoping to visit more parks this year within reasonable driving distance from our home.

Quote of the week:

  • Me: When I went to the first grade, we had 44 kids in the class.
  • Anna: Did you have iPads for everyone?
  • Me (laughing): Honey, there were no iPads at the time I was in the first grade.
  • Anna: But surely you had phones and could text each other? Were there no phones either?

Her quote cracked me up, the other day at the eye doctor Selena asked how their phone could possibly even ring.

Oh, no! Popped in the middle of the party! What a party popper.

I love your goal to get out each weekend and trying to get to more state parks.

I'm sure my kids will be shocked as well with how much things have changed.

I remember watching an X-Files episode that had a flashback element and being amazed at the size of his cell phone (about the size of a hard back book).

44 kids in first grade? Wow!

I remember Big Basin State Park from my time in CA - so beautiful!

That is too bad about poor Ballu Blue. We had some tears over a balloon in our house as well, when the balloon Johnny received at a birthday party would no longer float (or fly, to use Johnny's term) the next morning. Luckily he recovered quite quickly, but he hadn't had the balloon nearly as long as Anna had Ballu Blue!

I love the (usually) in Anna's Valentine cards that she made for you!

Also, I hope work slows down (although that doesn't seem to be the trend) and that you feel better soon!

I'm glad Anna loved Valentine's day and I enjoyed reading about her pretend play. I hope things at work calm down and you can get some rest.
