In our lives… It was our vacation week! We promised Anna to take her to Legoland California for her sixth birthday, and we are so glad we did. The trip was a blast, and she endured a 6+ car ride quite well. The time to visit was perfect – the weather was mostly sunny most of the time, and the lines were short. We spent 2 days in Legoland, one in San Diego Zoo and one in San Diego Safari Park.
Legoland. Anna absolutely loved this park. We hit all the rides on Monday and then came back on Thursday for “free exploration day” when Anna was totally in charge of where we went and what we did. The favorite part for adults was certainly Miniland, with hundreds of Lego buildings. Anna loved the rides, especially the Volvo Driving School where she got to drive on her own in a Lego car.
San Diego Zoo was… huge! We spent the whole day there and didn’t even see all the exhibits. Anna enjoyed “Animal Ambassadors” show and peppered trainers with questions afterwards. She was especially interested in owls. We made it to the panda exhibit, but it was very difficult to take pictures, it was definitely the most crowded part of a zoo. Anna’s favorite part was riding on a “Skyfari” across the zoo – we ended up doing it 3 times.
Safari Park. I thought that we will only spend half a day in Safari park and will hit the beach afterwards, but I was wrong. It was also a lot larger than I thought with several interesting shows and a tram ride. It was very fascinating to see cheetah run – they are trained to run full speed after a mechanized toy. Anna’s favorite was birds again and she was very fascinating with a training demonstration and explanation of how birds are trained for returning to their homes after “The Frequent Flyers” show.
Overall it was an awesome trip, and we even managed to get some schoolwork in. I will read about it in a separate post. And Anna’s travels are not even over – she will be on her way to Florida with her papa in one week where she will meet up with her German uncle and aunt. She didn’t see them for several years, but I hope they will all enjoy this reunion.
