School. Another week of school flew by. Anna continues to adore school. In her words she loves-loves-loves everything they do in school. When I ask her what they do, she usually says, “stuff”. They do a lot of work with graphs and diagrams now and learning to hear syllables in words. I like reading her short stories on Monday when the teacher sends all class work from the previous week home.

Afterschool. I’ve been traveling to an offsite meeting this week and was sick as a dog most of the time, so Anna was mostly left to her own devices. She has access to workbooks, paper, pens, etc., so she did some self-directed learning. I was contemplating recently how fluent she got in her math facts – the same jump in fluency as we witnessed in reading once upon a time. Now she can recall math facts almost as quickly as I can, and her mental calculation abilities surprise me. I credit DreamBox with this – she loves playing the games, and now most of them deal with actual computation, not just with counting.
Work would be a lot more fun if I hadn’t been so sick. We had an offsite in a very nice hotel in Monterey Bay. Unfortunately, I had to come home a day early because I was so sick and spent the rest of the week in bed.

Places we are going. Halloween was a blast! Our neighborhood goes crazy on Halloween night with haunted houses, hundreds of kids and lots of candy being given out. Anna and I were out for more than an hour – longest trick-or-treating ever. She was dead tired when we came home but still took time to sort and count her treats.

Our neighbors were kinda quiet this year. My boys have almost made the leap with math

I am glad that Anna is liking school. Glad your feeling better. I love Anna's quote, and such concern for her mommy.

I'm sorry you've been so sick! Anna's quote is very sweet.

We only had 7 trick or treaters - tonight, on our rescheduled Halloween. Normally we do get more.

I'm so glad you're feeling better. It's never fun when Mama is sick and what a sweet quote from Anna this week. I'll have to check out Dreambox. Little J takes an after school math class that is more advanced than his classroom math and he loves it.

Wow! Your week sounds like mine! I had a training session for work on Friday that I was looking forward to, but I had to leave halfway through because I was so sick. I spent the weekend in bed. It sounds like Anna is doing great with math. It's funny because C is very advanced with math in terms of understanding concepts, but he isn't as fast with simple math facts. He still counts on usually.
