Sep11_OJ1On Sunday we went for a walk around the block. We brought some items home with us for “studying” (Anna’s definition of studying: “looking at things with a magnifying glass”)

Sep11_OJ2 She inspected everything very carefully

Sep11_OJ3Then she drew her observations in her very new “science journal”

Sep11_Oj4 She was very proud to be able to spell September and spell most of other words. They learned a chant to spell “September” in school. It was the first time she was actually delighted about her ability to spell and write and now she has a new career aspiration to be a librarian who will also write books for her library.

She looks so intent on her work!

I love her theory on studying. My boys think an experiment is anything that involves mixing stuff, particularly baking soda. That is wonderful stuff to them.

How wonderful that she is enjoying spelling and writing - hopefully it carries over to new words!

Her science journal looks fantastic!

Boy Anna and Selena would have a blast with their magnifying glasses. I am so thrilled to hear about her spelling and writing.

Love of reading and now a love of words and writing. I think she's well on her way to becoming a fantastic librarian, though her science skills look pretty sharp as well.

Her handwriting is so neat! I remember loving words like "bulldozer" and "mountain" because they were big words and it was cool to know how to spell them. Anna's spelling of "September" reminds me of that time. You must be so proud of her!

You know I totally loooove her science journal. She is a perfect example of how powerful journal writing with young children is.

Observing is such a wonderful skill to foster. Anna's drawings and words are fantastic. Such a neat idea to journal Anna's observations.

Savvy is five next week and I am going to give her a journal so that she can record her thoughts, observations and ideas.

I've been a little absent in the blog-o-spere the past few days, but thanks for linking up. I love the idea of a science journal. Our nature journal did not get as much use this summer as I had hoped.
