Afterschool I am delighted to announce that enough people have expressed interest in hosting and participating in an “afterschool” blog hop, and now it’s time to kick it off. This is “weekly wrap up” type of a blog hop for those of us who send their children to school and add to their learning with educational and playful activities at home. My first entry will be published on September 11, and I will switch to Tue-Thu-Sat and Sunday schedule for my blog then.

Usborne Big Book of Science And now on to a giveaway. Jen from Chestnut Grove Academy has generously provided The Usborne Big Book of Science Things to Make and Do for a review and giveaway on my blog. As all Usborne books this is a beautifully done book with a lot of fun projects. I wish we could share at least one of the projects that we did, but this is one of the downsides of our new school-bound life – with all other activities and commitments we didn’t get around to doing anything. One slightly critical comment that I have about the book is that many projects are more craft-like and less science-like than my daughter prefers, but I wish we did more with it.

How to win this great book?

  1. 1. Visit Jen at Chestnut Grove Academy (she has a great blog) and become her friend. Leave a comment here when you do.
  2. 2. Jen is a Usborne consultant and has her own shop online. Visit her shop and leave me a comment saying which book was your favorite. Jen also offers a discount for homeschoolers.
  3. 3. If you want to join an afterschool blog hop, leave a comment introducing yourself, your blog and whether you would be interested in hosting this blog hop on your blog.
  4. 4. Link your entry to afteschool blog hop every week and come back to leave a comment for extra entries!

This giveaway will close on Sep 30, 2011.

Telling the Time looks as though it would contain everything needed for my 4 yr. old granddaughter to learn to tell time.. She likes farms and apples and when I have her...we have nothing but time!

I am intrigued by the "I Can Draw People" and "I can Draw Animals" books - I think my kids would enjoy those!
