Carnival of the Animals

I chose Camille Saint-Saens as a composer for our French theme, but somehow we just couldn’t find time to actually listen to the CD and read this fantastic book that I brought from the library. Finally papa took matters in his own hands, and now she listened to the music for too many times to count. The music really comes alive with a book as a companion. It first introduces the orchestra and its components, and then explains every movement and which instruments are used to represent it. July30_CoA1The illustrations are gorgeous too, and I am thinking of getting this book for our home library.

Since Anna kept dancing to the music, I thought she might enjoy making some puppets using this great coloring book that I found online. She was very much into it… for the first two animals :) Then she was off to dance again:

July30_CoA2 Even though I am not a big fan of the show itself, Disney Little Einsteins site has some interesting games (we played them some time ago). And even better site to get some introduction to musical instruments is DSO Kids where you can listen to different orchestra instruments.

I adore the Carnival of Animals. I used to listen to it as a kid, too.

We just picked up a carnival of Animals book from the library too, not this one though. I will have to see if our library has this one as well.

That book looks great! My mom just sent me a recording of Carnival of the Animals, so I'll check if our library has this book!

I will have to see if I can get this book and CD. Selena is very good at identifying the sounds of instruments, this might be a neat extension to her knowledge.

That sounds so cool. I loved Peter and the Wolf as a kid because of how expressive that music was.

How does Anna like Fantasia? I know some would be too scary, but I would think she'd love other parts.

Oh that book sounds fantastic! What a fun idea!

I purchased the baby Einstein CDs for the children when they were babies and they played quietly under their cribs as they all slept.

To this day, they love Classical Music and can usually identify what song it is when they hear it.

PSSSSS!!!! We got your postcard today!!! Thank you so much! We are working on yours this afternoon!!

I will have to search for a copy of Carnival of the Animals - sounds amazing.

I have just caught up on your previous post. Sounds like August is going to be an exciting and busy month as well as one of transition. It is interesting to learn that you have preschool and then kindergarten (we have kindy first). Wishing Anna (and you) all the best for a wonderful start to kindergarten.

We have never watched the Little Einsteins. I bet Pierce would like it - he was born October 2006 too!

I missed this post earlier this week. We own that book/cd and it is wonderful! It all began when we went to a special event at the library featuring that book. There was a family of musicians there that introduced the kids to the instruments behind the music. C and R loved it so much that we bought the book. I'll have to check out that coloring book.

My kids used to like Little Einsteins, but they haven't watched it in a long time (over a year).
