In our lives… It’s been a busy week with some crazy weather. Anna is enjoying her summer camp and the fact that she is a “big kid” now and can help the “little ones”. We see her acting more mature at home, especially in one area we are “working on” – not interrupting adult conversations. It’s interesting to hear her interpretations of these conversations later. She loves meeting new people and trying new things, and I am not dreading flying solo with her in August quite as much as I did a few months ago. I still work a lot, and Anna quite loves special “papa times” with board games, hide-and-seek and drawing together.

Afterschooling was very light, mostly by Anna’s choice. She still reads a lot and she loves DreamBox. It’s fun to hear her telling to herself, I love a hundred chart! I am good with numbers! This is definitely the belief I want her to have, similar to her belief that she is a great reader, especially since both of her beliefs are quite true.

My favorite thing this week was scoring great finds at our neighborhood’s garage sale. I always wanted to have big wooden blocks for Anna but couldn’t quite stomach the expense considering that she already has other building sets. I was thrilled when we found this big set for $5, and all of us love it. For another $5 we got a brand-new kite, 8 books and a brand-new science kit. Woo-hoo!

Places we are going. We didn’t do anything particularly outstanding this week, but we flew our new kite in the park and stayed to play. Anna has finally figured out the art of moving her body with the swing, and she was very pleased with herself. We also went to the potluck party thrown by a former coworker of my husband, so both of us got a chance to meet his work buddies.

  • Favorite quotes: Anna: Mama, how many grades are there in school?
  • Me: Twelve.
  • Anna: And then?
  • Me: And then you can go to college if you choose to do so.
  • Anna (excited): I want to go to college directly! I want to study and then I am going to get a job. But don’t worry – I will let you live with me when I have my own money and my own place.

We need to work on the not interrupting around here. It's tough because I know she sees us, adults as equals and sometimes she just wants to be part of our conversation!

I have a feeling you may have to fast forward Anna to college! She's growing up so fast!

I used to like perusing stoop sales if I passed them on the streets. But now, I can't stop thinking about the potential for bed bugs!

So glad she thinks she is good at math now! And can work the swing. That's a big step in a kid's life!
