I am pleased with how our July is going so far. Anna spends a lot of time playing, swimming and reading. She seems happier in her camp too, and I am glad that we won’t have to deal with new classroom and new teachers in September, since the same teachers will become her preK teachers then. I managed to accomplish two of my goals for July this week – having a garage sale and going sailing.
Reading. This is very typical of Anna – she can start reading anywhere if she sees a new book. I encourage her to retell her favorite stories and to come up with her own ideas, and she can never get enough of new books even though she also has about 30 books from her own library out at any given time.
Arts, Crafts and Fine Motor Skills. I decided to completely follow Anna lead for now when it comes to writing. I gathered courage and put a pencil and a notebook in her room. From time to time Anna uses drawings in her pretend play – usually she draws X-rays and “writes” prescriptions when she plays doctor. And this is the first picture where she drew people to scale – of course, it’s me and her :)
Playing. We are trying to get to the pool as much as possible. Anna loves water and now insists on taking shower every night – she used to be afraid of it. At home she plays with felt a lot, builds with her Wedgits and practices the life of the office worker. She seems to think that I eat in the office non-stop, because her idea of office life involves a lot of “having lunch with coworkers”.
