The virtual travel of this week was selected by me. I wanted to “go to India” for a long time, because of all the special things I was accumulating due to generosity of my Indian friends. I was excited to put together a special “Indian box” for Anna that had a beautiful hand carved elephant, an interesting collection of hand made spin tops, The Jungle Book (from our home DVD collection), a small elephant craft from Michael’s, a recipe, a book  (it didn’t fit in the box) and a couple of “craft suggestions” (I printed how the finished crafts would look like to give her an idea of what she might want to make).

My Indian friend also brought a very special and July27_IndiaDressbeautiful outfit for Anna from her visit back home – unfortunately it’s still way too big for my daughter. I let Anna wear a shirt from this outfit as a dress, and she was quite pleased with it. She was also very excited about spin tops, especially the ones that require a string to start them, but then spin for a very long time. We are enjoying several books for our Indian theme, and we plan our family movie night tonight to watch  The Jungle Book. Strangely, Anna was quite indifferent to the chance to watch a new movie – she is worried that it’s going to be “scary” even though I assured her that it will end well :) Before we watch a movie, we will eat leftovers from my first ever Indian dish – Chicken Curry. It really exceeded my expectations, and my husband who loves Indian cuisine a lot more than I do gave it big “thumbs up”, so now it goes into our recipe collection.

When Kiddo watched the Jungle Book he started crying and calling for me at the end. I asked him what was wrong and he said he didn't want the boy to go back to the man-village! I think he thought something scary was going to happen to him there.

My kids are big fans of Jungle Book; they love the music. It's weird, but they don't ever get frightened by movies.

India is such an interesting place. It's great that you have such generous friends! I love the way you put together an India box.

I was going to say the same thing...it's odd that JC wants to watch scary movies like mommy and daddy. Of course, I don't let her but she keeps asking for it. And recently she said she likes "dangerous" exercises that makes her a little scared but feels good afterwards. I'm afraid I might have a little thrill seeker on my hands.

Love how you covered so many countries! I have yet to teach lots of countries because the interest is not there. It's still all about animals here.

Jeff is very saddened by the fact that I'm not a curry fan, so he doesn't really get much in the way of Indian food.

I love the box you put together. I think that is the neatest idea, and maybe when we go back to countries or continents we'll do that.

I love your idea of putting boxes together of places to visit. I could at least do this for the countries I've lived in - thanks for the inspiration!

I love the idea og putting together a box as well. It's so nice you've been able to collect all those things from your friends. As far as Jungle Book goes, I'm fairly certain C would be terrified of it!

Sounds like a great unit with tons of interesting elements for Anna. How nice to have contacts who are able to make it so authentic.

This sounds like fun! What a great collection of things to introduce Anna to India. Well done on finding time to cook, and discovering a new workable recipe. Mission accomplished for July?
