Mar8_Geoboard1

I have made Anna a homemade geoboard in the past, but it was 5x5 and rather small. After some initial interest, it was sitting abandoned on our art board. Eventually I was tempted by this inexpensive 11x11 geoboard that was conveniently available with my Amazon Prime membership. I was somewhat disappointed with the boring rubber bands that camMar8_Geoboard2e with it, but our huge set of colorful rubber bands from Dollar store worked just fine. Anna played with her new geoboard on and off – it’s also a really good exercise for those chubby fingers to stretch and position rubber bands on the knobs. She worked hard to measure and make a square, and then I showed her how to make “pictures” on her geoboard. First she was adding to my creations, but then got adventurous enough to try her own. She Mar8_Geoboard3made various letters and then created this house independently. Eventually I might break down and get Geoboard Pictures for Little Kids, but so far we are enjoying free exploration of our big geoboard. Of course, it’s one of those props that will grow with Anna as she learns more about geometry. Some interesting ideas on using geoboard can be found here and here.

Neat product! I cancelled my Amazon Prime, because it was a little too convenient :)

What a great deal on a geoboard, thanks for blogging about it! I'd wanted one for a while, but didn't trust Johnny to leave a homemade one intact and hadn't found one I liked for sale. Just ordered one, my brother gave us Amazon Prime as a gift and I love the free two-day shipping =)

We have that geoboard pictures for little kids. The problem with it is that a few of the pictures require small rubber bands, but the kit doesn't come with any!

We have a geoboard somewhere. I'm not sure where it landed after the move. I'll have to look for it.

Oh, I canceled my Prime membership because it was too convenient too! Way too tempting for me.

We have never had a geoboard but after reading your post, that is something we will definately consider getting. I think my youngest son would enjoy having one! Thank you for sharing.

We have one too, but I haven't taken it out in forever. I saw the coolest large scale geoboard recently at http://www.filthwizardry.com/2010/01/giant-homemade-geoboard.html - what a neat idea!
