For our China week I placed a set of dominoes in our math box. I was about to buy dominoes when my husband informed me that he has a set in his big box of 100 Family Games that he brought over from Germany. Anna was mostly interested in building mazes with dominoes and trying to knock them down with one push – the way her papa showed her. My husband and I, on the other hand, really enjoyed rediscovering the rules and playing it against each other. Anna was playing with one of us several times. She understands the rules, and knows which bones she can play, but finer strategy points are beyond her so far. Still she is warming up to the game, and I think we will keep it in the math box at least until the end of the week.

We also tried stamping games. To stick with the Chinese theme, I printed out two identical dragon magnet pages from here, and then we rolled the dice and stamped our pages this number of time with do-a-dot stampers seeing who is going to finish first. In the middle of the game, Anna looked at me and said, Mama, this is too easy! I had to agree with her – I felt kind of guilty trying to push something on her that looked cool on other blogs. She simply has no interest at this point in those magnetic pages and any forms of coloring. She finds random dot placing and then connecting the dots infinitely more interesting :)

WE have dominoes and my kids love them but I have no idea what the rules are -- I'll have to read them.

I never even knew there were rules for dominoes... I need to pick up a set for my kids - and I think I'll check out those rules!

I haven't pulled our dominoes out in a long time. We will have to try them again as Selena enjoyed them when we played with them before.

Isn't it a bummer when they aren't excited about something that you spent time on? We've definitely had that happen from time to time.

Thanks for the magnet links. We have a set that I can use with those pages. I'd never thought about using a baking sheet as the base like they said. It definitely would help with portability.

Which domino game do you play? My in-laws love to play 42, but I'm not a big fan of it. I love trains or chicken-foot.
I've never tried the stamp pages I see everywhere. I wonder what my kids would do? Probably completely ignore the circles to stamp.
