Jan8_TinkerToy1_SM

I wrote about Tinkertoys before, Anna got a Jumbo set as a present for her birthday. We love construction toys, but neither I nor my husband were thrilled with quality of the set or with its possibilities. Well, our daughter begs to differ. We put away Tinkertoys quietly in preparation for new Christmas toys, but suddenly Anna asked my husband where they are. It’s the first time ever when she actually asked for the toy that was no longer in her room – usually it’s “out of sight out of mind” here. Anyway, my husband retrieved it, and daughter is playing with it for several days. In this picture she built “a fishing rod” and the thing on the end is all the fish that she caught. Jan8_TinkerToy2_SM What surprised me is that she built a sun and stars out of Tinkertoys completely independently and was playing with them telling herself how Earth moves around the Sun and how when it’s dark here, it’s light somewhere else. She really took to this fact as a reassurance that a new day will come, and my husband demonstrated it very easily to her with her little globe and a flashlight. Love that $1 Target globe, go and get it while it’s still there!

I love these pictures of Anna playing with Tinker Toys!

I'll have to see if our Target has that $1 globe. I am amazed that she was talking about how the earth moves around the sun - it's incredible what such young children can understand, if it is taught properly.

Mine surprise me sometimes with what they ask to be gotten out of hiding.
I love her creativity with the fishing rod and fish. She could come over to my house and go camping with the kiddos. They'd cook the fish on the fire and then have soup.

You're making me sad we don't have a Target nearby ;)

How wonderful that she could use the Tinkertoys to make her new knowledge even more visible and clear to her, and to show you what she knows.
And, look, everyone is drooling over your globe!

Thanks for the heads up on the Dollar Spot.

Tinker Toys was one of the things on our list that wasn't gotten for Christmas. Maybe an upcoming birthday in May? Hope so!
