I wrote about Tinkertoys before, Anna got a Jumbo set as a present for her birthday. We love construction toys, but neither I nor my husband were thrilled with quality of the set or with its possibilities. Well, our daughter begs to differ. We put away Tinkertoys quietly in preparation for new Christmas toys, but suddenly Anna asked my husband where they are. It’s the first time ever when she actually asked for the toy that was no longer in her room – usually it’s “out of sight out of mind” here. Anyway, my husband retrieved it, and daughter is playing with it for several days. In this picture she built “a fishing rod” and the thing on the end is all the fish that she caught. What surprised me is that she built a sun and stars out of Tinkertoys completely independently and was playing with them telling herself how Earth moves around the Sun and how when it’s dark here, it’s light somewhere else. She really took to this fact as a reassurance that a new day will come, and my husband demonstrated it very easily to her with her little globe and a flashlight. Love that $1 Target globe, go and get it while it’s still there!
