The Dot

Last week we read The Dot by Peter H Reynolds. It’s an interesting story about the girl who starts her journey into art by drawing a dot and signing her name. I won’t spoil the book by describing what happens next. Lately Anna has really been channeling that girl when it comes to drawing. She doesn’t seem interested in the least. Of course, having these attempts during late afternoon doesn’t help matters either. During our Art Box time on Dec2_Signature Wednesday I gave her all the ingredients for making a Christmas tree or decorating one, but she wasn’t interested in the least. Instead she wanted to make wavy squiggles and practice signing her name like the girl in the Dot book. I cut the paper before making a picture because she wanted me to write her middle and last name next to her first name. Well, at least it’s as open-ended as it gets :)

We just read The Dot - such a nice, simple book with a great message.

My son went through an anti-crafting stage as well, so I know what you're talking about. Just watch, in a few months Anna will be all over that Art Box! :)

I will have to check into that book. Selena just doesn't do well with totally open Ended Art. She will if it is what she likes (cutting and glueing) otherwise I am sitting over her and instructing her along the way.

I guess we will wait until Anna and Selena grow out of this stage they are in or something.

Squiggles and name signing - maybe Anna wants to be an author, rather than an illustrator :)
