Our topic of the day yesterday on an Activity Calendar was Carols. We listen to a lot of Christmas music at home, and I am trying to teach Anna a few non-religious carols – Deck the Halls, Jingle Bells and We Wish You a Merry Christmas. Her favorite by far, however, is I Have a Little Dreidel – a Hanukkah song. She knows it well, because Raffi sings it. Raffi is her favorite singer, and she sings a lot of songs from the CD that we have. She pretends to be a dreidel in this picture, and just before this she pretended to ski in her new (too big) penguin slippers – a St Nicholas presents from our friends. This girl is so lucky to celebrate everything there is to celebrate in December :)

I already shared our favorite book based on Christmas Carol – Deck the Halls. It still gets a lot of requests, and we are rereading some other books that we brought from the library. So instead I will share our favorite video that I brought from the library.

Frosty Friends

Anna has never seen Barney before, and she fell in love with an episode on this DVD called The Gift of the Dinos. Barney and his friends sing all her favorite carols and there is even a detour into Hanukkah celebration. The story is also a clever child-appropriate version of a famous short story by O Henry – The Gift of the Magi, so there is something in it for adults as well.  We watched it every day since I brought it from the library, and she still can’t get enough. Her second favorite on this DVD is Kipper – something that we haven’t seen before. She was indifferent to Bob the Builder and Thomas the Engine – she barely wanted to see them again after the first time.

I love her slippers! Selena loves to sing Jingle Bells and Oh Christmas Tree.

Sounds like a cute movie. We watched Mickey Mouse's Christmas the other day and Selena just loved it.

I used to listen to Raffi songs when I was a kid. I forgot all about them. Could you check that DVD and let me know if I has a Spanish track? Both of the boys LOVE Barney and I know that some of the videos are in Spanish. Thanks!

We're playing some Christmas carols here too - our favourites are: Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer, Jingle Bells and Santa Claus Is Coming To Town.

The gift of the Dinos sounds like a great DVD.

It's wonderful to see that even though Anna didn't crate the handprints she originally set out to do, she quickly moved to plan B and created such beautiful designs. We can learn so much from our flexible children who always see the possibilites.

First of all, Maddie totally agrees with Anna on the topic of Bob the Builder and Thomas (and, I do too!).

And, we love Raffi too! I have several of his CDs. :)

I remember that Raffi song from when I was a kid. I still get it stuck in my head to this day occasionally.
Love the slippers.

This is a fun post!

There is a definite "not indifference" to Thomas around here, my boys love it!
