Our topic of the day yesterday on an Activity Calendar was Carols. We listen to a lot of Christmas music at home, and I am trying to teach Anna a few non-religious carols – Deck the Halls, Jingle Bells and We Wish You a Merry Christmas. Her favorite by far, however, is I Have a Little Dreidel – a Hanukkah song. She knows it well, because Raffi sings it. Raffi is her favorite singer, and she sings a lot of songs from the CD that we have. She pretends to be a dreidel in this picture, and just before this she pretended to ski in her new (too big) penguin slippers – a St Nicholas presents from our friends. This girl is so lucky to celebrate everything there is to celebrate in December :)
I already shared our favorite book based on Christmas Carol – Deck the Halls. It still gets a lot of requests, and we are rereading some other books that we brought from the library. So instead I will share our favorite video that I brought from the library.
Anna has never seen Barney before, and she fell in love with an episode on this DVD called The Gift of the Dinos. Barney and his friends sing all her favorite carols and there is even a detour into Hanukkah celebration. The story is also a clever child-appropriate version of a famous short story by O Henry – The Gift of the Magi, so there is something in it for adults as well. We watched it every day since I brought it from the library, and she still can’t get enough. Her second favorite on this DVD is Kipper – something that we haven’t seen before. She was indifferent to Bob the Builder and Thomas the Engine – she barely wanted to see them again after the first time.
