Maybe this post should be titled, Toys My Husband Actually Plays With. He loves Lego, and he could very well become one of those professional Lego artists. He has amazing 3D imagination, and he can build anything out of Lego blocks. We have quite a collection of Duplo (probably about 300 pieces), and also a giant collection of regular size Lego that my husband’s parents brought from Germany. By the way, they only brought half of it so far :) It’s amazing that Anna has some toys inherited from her papa and uncle. Unfortunately I didn’t have space to bring any of my old toys when I moved to US.

Sometimes I think that my husband’s skill in Lego building is a little overwhelming for Anna. She rarely plays with Lego herself trying to build herself. She likes to help papa build complex projects – the same way she might be helping in the workshop or in the kitchen, and she likes to play with end result – castles, bridges, merry-go-rounds or houses. I wish she built more herself, but I hold the hope that she is learning as she watches, and one day will become a competent Lego architect herself.

I loved the "toys my husband actually plays with" bit in this post! I tend to buy toys for my kids because I want to play with them - and they have inherited many of my younger brothers' and sisters' toys.

We love duplo blocks too, and would love to own 300 of them - although I'm nowhere near the lego artist it sounds like your husband is!

I think my email should be showing now? I thought it was already :(

We're at about 200 Duplos right now, only 100 of which are out because more would be overwhelming for my little one.

PS I am beginning to believe "toys my kid actually plays with" has a lot to do with "Toys I actually play with"

You know of my love/obsession with Legos. What helps for my kids to actually build with them is I tell them I can't build it right now, and so they build more. Of course that also ends up with Legos all over.

There is a constant supply of Legos scattered around our house. There will probably be even more after Christmas. My son loves to build with Legos. But take heart because when he was younger all he wanted was for Daddy to build everything for him. It is a fairly recent development that he builds so much on his own.

Deen loves legos too although we don't have any at home. He has lego's at playschool so I dont want to buy them for home because i still want to encourage him to go to playschool.

You moved to the US? Where are you from originally?

Well, I am NO good at Legos, but Hanna and Jamie rock at Lego building, and Joe and Jack are getting there too:-). They play with Legos every day here at home! Not me though:-).
