Oct11_Leaves_SM The topic for Tree Hugging Tots this week is leaves. This is something that Anna loves with a passion. She constantly builds nests in the corner of our backyard for herself and for her animals. She loves “cooking” by mixing leaves and pebbles. She loves collecting leaves on our walks around the block. Interestingly, she likes the walks around the block better than the  trLeaf Manips to our playground that is only about 10 minutes walk.  She takes time to  pick different leaves, play with sticks and investigate bark of the trees. And she starts liking to create things out of the leaves. She is not too interested in painting them or doing leaf rubbings, but she likes to arrange them into some sort of patterns or glue them to the paper. We also love read many-many books about leaves lately – I wrote about some of them in my What My Child Is Reading posts. One of our favorites was Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert that I highly recommend. We did a StArt project on this book, and Anna really enjoyed creating freely with leaves and petals. I hope that her love for all things growing will continue through her life.

We also love Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert. Just did an activity with it last week that is in my Tree Hugging Tots post.

My son is the same way as Anna when it comes to walks. He will literally walk miles in the mountains because there are leaves, sticks, rocks, flowers and more to look at and collect. But if we walk to the park or the store he acts like we are hiking 20 miles. I can totally understand how they feel though. =)

My kids love "cooking" outside with leaves and sand and various other objects too! They make a lot of soup and cake in our back yard. ;)

My kids "cook" with what they find outside too, then they bring it to me to eat.....

The leaf man is on our list of books to read. It sounds like a good book. Your post brought back memories of pretending to cook with leaves and pebbles. We did that as children.

I loved yours! We have cooler weather moving in this week, so hopefully our leaves will start changing!!

Leaves really are the perfect medium for creative and imaginative play.

It's wonderful that Anna has such a love for leaves and the environment. I enjoyed hearing about all of the activites she has come up with when it comes to playing with leaves.
