Shannon (formerly of Teaching My Little Bookworm) reincarnated her blog at Wordpress. It’s now called Growing by Leaps and Bounds. I am excited to join her weekly events of Open-Ended Art and Learning Corners. The topic of today is Teaching Supplies and Favorite Teaching Tools.
We were lucky to buy a house with Elfa closet organizers in every closet. Even after we spread out, we still have some space left. I have a set of bins in the office closet and in the closet under the stairs to keep Anna’s supplies. However, as you can see from the middle picture below, it’s time to reorganize them :)
I had to think for a while about my favorite teaching tool. And then it dawned on me – books! I myself is a book (and Internet) learner, and that’s how I teach Anna. Do you want to know what makes rain? Let’s read a book. What do lobsters eat? Let’s look it up on the net. Anna cracked me up the other day when she said seriously, I don’t know my friend’s name, but I can look it up on the net. She is a 21st century child, but I still want books to take precedence over any other ways of learning. I do realize however that we are lacking somewhat in other ways – we don’t sing enough songs or play physical games. That’s why I am pretty happy that she goes to preschool where she gets to do a lot more play-based learning in a group – something that she doesn’t get at home.
