I have a confession to make. I am an Internet addict. It all started when I was pregnant with my daughter, and it never stopped. At least I manage to keep my addiction to one topic - child development and early learning. I want to have a place where I will keep track of all the things that I have discovered and learned while reading books and articles on the subject. Of course, I also try to use some of the materials while raising my daughter who was born in October 2006, and I will share my successes and failures.

I am not a native English speaker/writer. My native language is Russian, but I've been living in the United States for 15 years now. My husband is from Germany. He speaks German with our daughter, and I speak English to her. If someone has any good idea on how to introduce Russian (or any other third language, for that matter), please feel free to comment.

I know two families who use 3 languages in their homes... First family, Dad: german Mom: Spanish... Dad and Mom speak English to each other.... Children speak German to dad and Spanish to Mom and Dad speaks german to kids and Mom speaks spanish to kids...

Family 2: Dad: French Mom: Spanish Dad and Mom communicate in English... Children speak French to Dad and Spanish to Mom and Mom speaks Spanish to the kids and Dad speaks French to kids... Kids go to school in English... 2x per week...

For Both families... it has worked... as long as everything is consistent and the kids can anticipate what language is coming from who there should be no problem... or the kids can anticipate what language is used by location... at home Spanish and at school English... in my case...

Also... it is important not to mix the languages in a sentence or phrase... use 1 compete phrase/sentence in 1 language and then you can use the next complete phrase/sentence in language 2 if you so desire... this ensures an increase in vocabulary in all languages as well as the complete understanding and correct use of grammar rules in the different languages.

good luck...
